The Little Things Can Bring a Sprinkle of Happiness

Hi Friends!

It’s a beautiful day here in NY and I started my day with a smile.   Even though this is the dreaded day that I take over for my coworker AND the fact that I had to be in an hour early nothing was going to change my spirits.  Want to know why?

I was a busy girl last night and these were the end result of my blood, sweat & tears.

Ok, maybe that’s stretching the truth a bit. 😉  They did come from the heart though and I could have easily crashed after FINALLY eating dinner at 8:15 PM.  Seriously, where does the time go?!?!

I love to bake and will go all out for the people who I care about.  Unbeknownst to me, Rob came into the room and was watching me as I delicately spread the frosting onto the cupcakes.  Eventually, I looked up and noticed him staring at me with a smile.  He stated that I wasn’t meant to work in an office.  I asked if that was because of the goofy grin on my face as I worked with the cupcakes. LOL.  He said that the love can be seen in my work because I go out of my way to make my baked goods perfect, no matter what strange hour I’m found in the kitchen working on them.

To me, these were nothing really special.  They were a boxed Funfetti cake mix that I whipped up to help my boss celebrate his birthday.  I knew his day was going to be full of meetings so I thought his belly should be full of happiness.

Wouldn’t one of these make you smile?

It’s really the thought and the special little touches that make a difference to others.  I know it’s always the little things that make me happiest.

The little things like a touch of star-shaped sprinkles to add a glimmer of color and happiness to someone’s day.

The best part was the smile on my boss’ face and the story that he told me when he saw the cupcakes.  He said that his wife had planned something special for him with their son.  Unfortunately, his son was sick this morning and the plan fell through.  So he felt like my cupcakes made up for what he missed out on at home.

I could have been lazy last night and not gone to the effort of making anything.  Maybe I wouldn’t have veered out of my way during my commute home to get a card for coworkers to sign this morning.  I’m so glad that I did though.  As you can see, it’s the little things that can make a difference in someone’s day.

Of course, I also made someone’s night last night.  A certain boyfriend got into the cupcakes before I wrapped them up.

He licked his lips and said, “you always do such a great job.”  Since he buttered me up, I just might have set a plate aside for my love. Then, brought the milk out too. 😉

Wishing you a day full of smiles.

Busy Bees

Hi Friends!

Are you breathing easy that it’s finally the weekend?  I’m definitely ecstatic, but I wouldn’t say “breathing easy”.  Do you believe I’m still sick?  I’m definitely MUCH better than I was during the week, but I’m still congested and having trouble breathing, at times.  The cold seems to have settled in my chest, but I’m not going to let it spoil my fun this weekend.

Rob and I have been busy bees all day.  We’re heading out for dinner with two other couples tonight to celebrate Rob’s birthday.  The guys are some of Rob’s closest friends, but usually we see them in two different circles.  I know he’s really looking forward to tonight and I am as well.  Not only do I enjoy seeing the other couples, but it makes me happier when I see Rob happy.

The weather today couldn’t have been more beautiful.  We made reservations to eat outside, overlooking the water.  Later on, we’ll all hop on the boat for a relaxing ride.  The guys will enjoy some cigars during the ride and I’m thinking mixed drinks or iced coffee for the girls.  🙂

To get ready for all the fun tonight, Rob and I wanted to whip the house and toys (as he likes to call them) into shape.

I spent the time windexing, rearraning our kitchen cabinets and the fridge, finishing laundry, vacuuming, going on paper patrol (How does it pile up so quickly? Always!), cleaning bathrooms and tidying the entertaining area.

Rob was in charge of the “toys”.  He had to clean the boat so we can take it out later on.

Since he was out there, he also tackled the Jet Ski, which has been giving him some trouble lately.  Washing the car was another check off of his “to do” list.

About an hour ago I decided it was time to call it quits.  I headed outside to work on my tan (need to fade some of the lines for the shirt I’m wearing tonight) and get in an easy read.

Now, it’s time to hit the shower and get ready for all of the fun.  I can’t wait!

Enjoy the rest of your Saturday!

Party Pooper? Not Me!

Good Morning & Happy Friday, Friends!

This has been one of the strangest weeks for me.  I rarely get sick but this bug hit me HARD.  I could shoot the person that spread the bug on Rob’s plane ride home from a business trip last weekend.

I didn’t have to “try” to rest once I finished my post yesterday.  I was down and out almost as soon as I shut my laptop.  Rob came in to check on me a few times in between business calls.  I recall him telling me that I looked horrible and looked like I was going to die.  Let me tell ya, that’s a pretty good description of how I felt too.  I’m so thankful that my boss sent me home.  I don’t think I would have been able to drive if I waited until 5 PM to leave.

After a late dinner (a salad delivered to our door from our favorite Go-To restaurant) we settled in to watch Suits and then went to sleep.  Have you seen Suits?  I love it!

As I was drifting off to sleep I heard Rob say “You aren’t going to work tomorrow either.”  LOL.  I guess he knows me by now.  I thought to myself that I would wait and see how I felt this morning.

Rob’s alarm went off before 5 AM.  He had to meet his brother and brother-in-law for a fishing excursion.  I’m still not quite sure what his plans for the day are.  What I do know is that I was never able to fall back to sleep after he left.  Have I mentioned that I have a difficult time sleeping when he isn’t home?

I waited until a decent hour to text my boss that I would be staying home.  I still had a slight fever this morning.  The woman who has the cubicle behind me mentioned yesterday that she was beginning to get a sore throat.  I’d feel horrible if I passed my bug onto anyone at the office, so it’s definitely for the best that I stay home today.  I absolutely, positively want to be 100% for work next week.  I’ll go in early and work through some lunches to make up for time lost.

Plus, we’re supposed to celebrate Rob’s birthday with friends for dinner tomorrow night and with his family on Sunday.  I definitely don’t want to be the party pooper! 😉

Now, I’m going to see what I can consume that will sit easy in my belly.  It’s another beautiful day here, sunny but not too hot or humid.  I might try to relax outside and read a book.  Maybe the breeze will cool me down a bit.

Have a wonderful day!

Birthday Wishes

Hi Friends,

I’m currently blogging from bed.  I woke up this morning feeling even worse than yesterday. WTH? 😦  This bug doesn’t want to go away.  Rob has been sick since Saturday, but seems to be much better today, so I’m guessing the bug will run the same course for me.

We both went to the doctor yesterday and were given prescriptions.  I’m holding off one more day.  I really don’t like to take medicine.  I even hold off on taking Advil whenever I can.  The doctor noticed that my fingers were cold and also that I seemed to be dehydrated, even though I’ve been drinking a lot of water.  Even when I’m not sick I am ALWAYS cold.  Work bought be a foot heater just for that reason.  Anyway, she thought that I might have some thyroid issues and/or an iron deficiency (quite possible because my iron is always on the low side).  We’ll see what the test results find.  I was just glad to get everything out of the way at once.

My boss was away on business yesterday and came back to the office around 1 PM today.  Being the stubborn person that I am, I forced myself to go to work so that I could catch up on what I missed the past 2 days and also be there for his return.  One look at me and he told me that he was sending me home.  We went over a few things I had waiting for him and then he sent me on my way.

The drive home was actually not the greatest and I was happy to walk through the door, eat a little something and then jump into bed.  Rob came into the bedroom only to find me with my laptop out.  He said, “this is not what you should be doing”.  Yes, I know I have a problem.  I just can’t relax.  At least I’m in bed laying down, right?  I will try to put the laptop away after posting. “Try” being the key word. 😉

Even though we were both sick yesterday I wanted Rob’s birthday to be special.  I made a simple yet tasty dinner of London Broil, Roasted Potatoes & Carrots and String Beans.  The London Broil cooked a little quicker than I thought it would under the broiler, resulting in drier meat than I would have liked, but Rob assured me that he liked it and thanked me for making his birthday special.  I think he’s just really good at making me feel ok about things. 🙂

I had already given him his card and gift (a gift certificate for a hot stone massage) at breakfast, so he thought his special day was over.  He didn’t think he was ending his birthday without blowing some candles out to make a wish, did he?

Let There Be Cake

I got Rob’s favorite, a Carvel Ice Cream Cake.  I’ve always been a fan of the chocolate crunchies inside, myself.  Have you ever noticed that Carvel ice cream has a very distinct smell?

Time to Make a Wish

Hoping All Your Wishes Come True, Rob!  Happy Birthday!

After fiddling with my cell phone to take pictures in the dark and realizing what a hassle it was, it definitely reminded me to get a move on buying a new camera!

Ok, now I’m honestly going to “try” to get some rest.  It’s almost the weekend. Hurray!

Birthday Wishes With a Sneeze

Hi There,

I’m home sick, again.  My boss is in Florida for business today and he was kind enough to text me last night that I should just stay home if I wasn’t feeling 100% today.  Since he won’t be in the office I won’t be missing much, which made me feel better about taking the day.  I’m feeling much better than the past two days, but I’m still not completely ok.  I just feel a little off now (woozy head, congested, etc), but at least I sound pretty normal.

Today is Rob’s 33rd birthday.  I woke up after midnight to wish him a happy birthday and then rolled over and fell back to sleep.  What he recalls is me sneezing and spraying him with my wet slobber AND THEN wishing him a happy birthday.  I kind of recall that too.  Oops. 😉

Around 7:30 AM I was restless and got out of bed.  I truly have a difficult time sitting still.  I started cleaning the bathroom.  Then, I got Rob’s present out and asked him what the birthday boy wanted for breakfast.  He wanted his normal Starbucks breakfast which I hand delivered to him along with a Venti Awake tea for both of us.  The girl behind the counter was confused as to how I was drinking something so hot on a day like today, but she doesn’t realize just how much it makes my throat feel better.  Plus, when you’re sitting in air conditioning all day it really doesn’t matter how hot it is outside.  She doesn’t know that my sickness is holding me hostage indoors.

Rob had a few work appointments this morning, but should be back shortly.  I’m planning on cooking a special birthday dinner for him tonight.  Until then, this girly is going (to try) to rest.  I learned my lesson yesterday when I moved around too much and ended up nauseous. 😦  I can’t say Rob didn’t try to warn me a dozen times.

Wishing you a great day!

Birthday Bash

Hi Guys!

Another Monday has arrived and this one brought some rain and gloom with it.  Somehow the weekends always seem to sneak by quickly.  If only workdays moved along as quickly!

Anyway, my weekend was filled with lots of family time, which I thoroughly enjoyed! 🙂  Saturday began with some cleaning and errands.  By mid-afternoon I became antsy and headed over to my mom’s early.  I miss seeing her on a regular basis and decided it would be nice to get some extra time in before everyone else arrived.

I Can't Live Without Her!!

I snuck a peek in the fridge to see what we’d be having.

She had prepped chicken for the masses earlier in the morning and set them aside in the fridge.

Panko Crusted Chicken Waiting To Be Baked

The chicken was coated in whole wheat panko and baked, but they tasted fried.  So yummy!  My birthday dinner also included some roasted potatoes, steamed green beans and salad.  It was a totally Kim approved dinner! 🙂

After some alone time with my mom my siblings started to arrive. Everything worked out perfectly because my brother just happened to be home on school break this week.  It was nice to get everyone together all at once.  It rarely happens, so we treasure that time when it does occur.

While dinner was cooking I hung out with these guys:

Sibling Love

Then my mom popped in on the action

It’s so hard to get a picture of all of us together.  Someone always seems to be missing or we completely forget.

This guy showed up shortly after

This lil guy came with my sister and her boyfriend

Oliver!

He must have felt very loved

Attacking Dana's Hair

At one point all of the girls were surrounding Oliver and my brother looked at the other guys and said “Do you see what I have to deal with?”  Haha.

Pretty soon it was time for dessert.  Instead of sundaes, we had build your own trifles using all light ingredients.  My mom knows me so well. 🙂

The Full Spread

After making our trifles, we congregated in the family room to watch a slide show of pictures from the Mexico trip.  I promise to post a recap this week!!

Shortly thereafter we headed home, happily exhausted.  It was a WONDERFUL birthday and I have a feeling the year ahead is going to be a GREAT one!

Can you tell I love butterflies?

Have a great day!
