The “Shake Queen”

Hi Friends,

The weekend is slowly coming to a close and I’m in denial that 10 short hours from now I’ll almost be pulling into the parking lot at work.  Is it bad that I’m already dreading next week?  One of my coworkers will be leaving on a two-week vacation at that time and I will be covering her.  Let’s just say I’m not looking forward to it.  I love her, don’t get me wrong, but I’m not looking forward to that responsibility.  Anyway, I’m going to try not to worry about it until next Sunday.

If you know me by now you can guess that I’m running on very little sleep.  It seems without fail that whenever Rob is away I have trouble sleeping.  I felt like a zombie walking around today and fell asleep while reading this afternoon.  I’m starting to feel a little more like myself now and hopefully I’ll be tired at a normal time tonight so I’m not running on empty tomorrow.  My plan is to wake up early and make it to the gym, so getting to sleep at a normal hour is a necessity.  You can bet that I’ll be enjoying one of my delicious protein shakes after rocking my workout.  It’s one of the things I look forward to after getting my sweat on.

New to you fact about me: I worked in the gym industry for 8 years, part of which while going through college.

During those 8 years I perfected the craft of protein shake making.  I loved having access to the high performance blenders at the gym and worked on getting my own shakes to the perfect consistency so I could make the members great shakes of their own.  Man, do I wish I had one of those blenders now.  They were great!

One day, I was sitting in my office and I overheard two members looking for me.  There were three people standing behind the counter that day, but they specifically wanted me to make their shakes.  They deemed me the “Shake Queen” and it became their nickname for me going forward.  Hey, I’ll take it. 😉

My pictures don’t do it justice, but this was my creation yesterday:

You remember The Players, right?

Those are frozen banana chunks in the bag.  I usually cut bananas into 8 equal pieces before freezing so I know exactly how much I’m getting at one time.  I usually use 1/4 of a banana in my shakes.

Pour In The Iced Americano

If you use a Magic Bullet, I use the bottom line marker as a guide to where I fill my liquid to.

Add You Favorite Protein Powder (I like BSN Lean Dessert)

Throw in Your Fruit  I prefer to use frozen fruit because of the consistency it lends to the shake.  You can add any extras, like peanut butter, at this time too.

Fill the Remainder of Your Blender Cup With Ice & Some Water (to get things moving)

Twist On the Cap

Then, Shake Some More!

What a Ham!!

Get Your Blend On

Protein Shake Perfection

So Thick & Creamy

Slip In a Straw & Enjoy

I Wish You Could Have Tasted It.  Don’t Worry, I Enjoyed it in Your Honor. 😉

Time for this girly to unwind and get ready for the work week.  Let’s hope the sand man pays a visit tonight so I can actually get some sleep and wake up fully recharged.

Have a great night!

Butterfly Mishap & Metamorphosis

 Hi Friends!

It’s a beautiful Thursday here in NY. It’s so hard to be cooped up inside knowing that on the other side of these walls the sun is shining and the birds are chirping. Oh well, that’s life, right? I decided to start my day with a different breakfast this morning. I am a creature of habit and could eat the same breakfast for months. I will literally eat it until one day I can’t even stand to look at it anymore. Instead of letting it get to that point I’m going to really try to listen to what my body is craving (and what food I have available to me). Last night, while making quick trip to the grocery store to grab things for dinner, an old favorite caught my eye.

In CT, I only found these in Whole Foods. Unfortunately, I don’t have a Whole Foods near me (of course they opened one right down the street from where I used to live AFTER I moved…errrr!), but might have to scout one out in the near future. Anyway, I was beyond excited to find these in the freezer aisle and hurried to grab a pack to place in my basket. My mind was already fast forwarding to today’s breakfast. Even though I had this in mind, I made sure that it was really what I was craving this morning. I didn’t want to eat it just because I had it. I thought about my options (whole wheat waffles w/ greek yogurt & berries, cereal & almond milk with fruit, one of my sugar free muffins with egg whites or greek yogurt, etc) and decided that I still wanted the English muffin and nothing else would do. So, I packed my meal up and enjoyed it at my desk while catching up on some morning e-mails.

I’m a happy girl and my belly is quite happy too. 😉

Last night, while Rob was doing some work, I decided to play around with my blog layout. What do you think? I found the theme I’m currently using and decided to take the plunge.  When I switched the blog over my header went missing. Of course, this happened just as we were going to cuddle up to watch Royal Pains. Rob had it paused on the tv screen but I couldn’t pull myself away from the computer.

I hurriedly Googled “butterflies”, but couldn’t find what I had originally used. I thought about putting a different picture in my header, but butterflies are a symbol to me and my journey. Yes, I’m a girly girl who just happens to like butterflies. However, on the blog they remind me that just as each butterfly is unique, they still look beautiful to me in their own way. No two wings are the same, yet I am not critical of that fact. I see them as a whole, just as I should see myself. They also are the end product of a metamorphosis.

Remember learning about the butterfly’s life cycle in elementary school?

Life is definitely a journey and over the years I’ve gone through my own metamorphosis, of sorts. I hope that I continually evolve to become the best me possible. Will I be perfect? Nope, never. I’ll make mistakes, get off course, belittle myself for something minor and will probably not be able to please everyone the way that I would like to. However, I will be happy knowing that I always tried my best, worked to be a good person and continued to dream & reach for my goals.

I had a difficult time sleeping last night knowing that my beloved butterflies weren’t on my header.  In the middle of the night I remembered that I had saved them to my laptop.  The first thing I did this morning was find them and load them back up.  I’m so glad I thought ahead when I originally found them. 🙂

Unfortunately, I must RUN to get some work done…..Today has already been CRAZY with the unexpected.  It’s moving like lightning though, which works for me!

Have a great day!

Americano Wake Up

Happy Friday Friends!

I’ve been waiting for today since, well, since Monday. 😉  I decided to get into the Fourth of July spirit a little early by beginning my day with an Iced Grande Americano.

I downed that sucker during my drive into work.

Now, if that doesn’t wake you up I don’t know what will!

I continued with the holiday theme by switching my normal breakfast of cereal, fruit and egg whites to a delish red, white and blue version.

We have some Red Vita Gummies

This Hard Boiled Egg White x3 for some filling protein.

Then, a Sugar-Free BlueberryLemon Streusel Muffin (mmm, mmm good!) for a speckled blue

It was berry good, indeed!  My fingers may or may not be speckled blue themselves, after eating it. 😉

After filling my belly with this yummy treat my day became even more positive.  An e-mail from human resources popped into my inbox with the subject line “Office Closure”.  You know I opened that e-mail immediately, right?  What was the message inside you ask?  How about:

“Due to the long holiday weekend, our offices will close at 3:00 pm today.  We will resume normal business hours on Tuesday, July 5, 2011.”

Now, I just have to stay focused and get all of my work done so I can hit the road at 3 on the dot!  You see, I have an injured Rob waiting at home.  He hurt himself while kiteboarding yesterday and I’m more than a lil worried about the guy.  This sport seems to be getting very dangerous.  At first he thought he broke a rib, but after speaking with his sister he believes that he just dislocated it.  As soon as I saw him get off the boat last night I knew something was wrong.  Poor guy.  He has an appointment at his sister’s office this afternoon and hopefully she can set things back into place for him.

When he arrived home last night, I was in the midst of cooking another yummy dinner.  I whipped up a version of Roni’s Bacon Cheese Inside Out Turkey Burgers.  I’ll write up a post with my changes in the near future.  All I can say is Holy Yum!  For sides I made some corn on the cob, baked fries, and sautéed zucchini with mushrooms & onion.  I was a very happy girl and I can say that even in pain Rob was a happy man!

Ok, I have to get crack-a-lackin so I can get out at 3!  Wishing you a wonderful day and a great long weekend!!

Hey There,

How’s your weekend going?  Mine has been great so far.  It’s been a mix of working out, errands, housework and fun.  I know you don’t want to hear about my scrubbing the bathrooms or my 1 1/2 hour trip to the grocery store yesterday so we’ll just cover some of the fun.

Around 5 PM yesterday evening, Rob and I returned to home base from doing our dutiful chores and completing our Saturday agendas.  We were busy bees yesterday, folks.  Just seeing him walk up to the sliding glass back door brought a huge smile to my face.  He says that my eyes shine when I see him.  I believe it!  I love that man so much!

Anyway, enough of the mushy stuff!  We decided on a dinner and movie date night and hurriedly got cleaned up to go out.  We went to one of our favorite restaurants, La Bottega.  It’s simple, quick and right down the street from us.  I love their salads.  My usual go to is the Susan Salad:

“Susan Salad”
Chicken cutlet, mixed greens, red onions, hot peppers, corn, gorgonzola, tomatoes and balsamic

I swap the chicken cutlet with grilled chicken and the hot peppers with sweet roasted peppers and I’m a happy gal!

Rob usually gets some sort of soup.  He LOVES soup!  Then, it’s either a meatball parm panini or the spinaci salad with grilled chicken:

Baby spinach, ciabatta croutons, black olives, walnuts,
white mushrooms, goat cheese and balsamic dressing

I’m sure by now they already know what we’re ordering when they see us.  We sometimes order take out from them and I swear the girl knows my voice and what I’m going to say.  Hey, at least we’re easy.  😉

We ate until our bellies were happy and then headed out to the movies.  We had decided on X-Men First Class and were quite happy with our decision.

My butt felt numb with the way I slumped in my seat for the majority of the movie.  It was worth it though.

At that point it was still pretty early.  We made it home, got into comfy clothes, and retired to the bedroom to watch another movie before bed.  I forget the name of it now, but it was a little on the gruesome side.  All in all, it was a wonderful Saturday night!

Now, maybe it was the movie right before bed or maybe it’s things that have been weighing on my mind, but I woke up this morning feeling exhausted.  Rob gave me a hug and asked if I had a nightmare last night because I was yelling out in my sleep.  I feel like I’ve been having a lot of bad dreams lately.  I wake up an my jaw is clenched.  Since I don’t normally watch gruesome movies before bed I’m going to have to go with option B.  I’ve been under a lot of stress lately and I think it’s getting to me.  I feel PARALYZED!

Rob has an exciting day with his brother planned and I have a list of things I want to do.  However, I couldn’t get moving this morning.  I drove to the gym, hung out in the parking lot for about 5 minutes and then returned home.  I just didn’t have it in me.  I decided to brew some coffee and make a breakfast I haven’t had in ages.  I excitedly got the ingredients out to make my famous whole wheat blueberry pancakes. YUM!!

Can’t Wait!

Blueberries Gallore…

Side of Whites w/ Cracked Pepper, for my protein fix

Can’t Forget Joe…

I Look So Serious…It’s The Anxiety, I Tell Ya

I clearly must have hated it, finger licked syrup and all.

My home cooked, comfort food helped in easing my stomach and I don’t feel quite as paralyzed anymore.  I won’t lie.  The knot is still sitting right in the middle of my stomach.  I think it’s fear of the work week beginning again.
Now, I’m going to clean my mess up and head out to pamper myself a bit.  I’m thinking maybe a mani/pedi will do the trick.  I also want to get that workout in that I held out on this morning.
I hope you’re having a great weekend!
