I went to bed last night with my fingers (and toes) crossed in hopes of a snow day today. I considered trying my brother’s snow day routine of sleeping with a white plastic spoon under his pillow and wearing his boxers inside out and backwards. After much contemplation I decided finger crossing and hoping for the best would do…..and boy did it ever! I don’t think I’ve seen so much snow in YEARS!! This is the third week in a row that I’ve had a snow day. Next week we already have a vacation day in place because of the Martin Luther King holiday. With all of these days off it has definitely helped in transitioning from the holidays into full-time work mode.
I’m sure you’re wondering what my secrets is. No, it has absolutely nothing to do with the snow, plastic spoons or boxers. It has everything to do with wanting to be my very best me though. If you follow me on twitter you may be wise to my secret. If not, the cat will be out of the bag shortly.
Last week, my friend Melissa posted that she was going to enter the Body For Life Challenge. I’ve entered the challenge multiple times, starting at the age of 19 and have never finished. NEVER!! I’m 31 now. You do the math. It’s literally gotten to the point where I ask my mom to take my before pictures and she rolls her eyes at me. The poor woman has taken them at least 10 times before, so I don’t blame her. I know that she also feels concern for me because she doesn’t want me to set myself up for failure or to feel like I’m putting unnecessary pressure on myself.
After my therapy session last week, I can’t even describe how much better I feel. Who knew what a life changing session that would be?! Want to know another secret? I honestly almost didn’t go. I was in such a bad mood the night before and into that morning that I almost called to cancel with some lame excuse of having to work late. My boyfriend commented that maybe I should wait until the afternoon to say something. I kept thinking about it and realized that it was only the eating disorder telling me to make that call. I wasn’t going to let it get the better of me, so I kept my session and am SO GLAD that I did. Anyway, I got a little off track there….
After that session I feel like I’m in a much healthier state of mind. I think that Body for Life is a healthy program. I’m hoping that by using their definition of a portion (protein the size of your palm and carbs the size of your clenched fist) I’ll be able to get away from so rigidly measuring my portions for every meal. I’m not going to set a weight goal; although, I have an idea of where I’d like to be by the end of the 12 weeks. This time, I’m not going to put that pressure on myself. My goal for this challenge is to actually FINISH this time around. This time, after pictures will actually be taken and maybe this will be one more thing from my past that I can put to rest.
I’m not going to post any pictures now, but will most likely post after the 12 weeks (depending on how confident I feel). I will keep you updated on my progress over the next 12 weeks. My start day is Monday, January 17th which makes my end date Sunday, April 10th. Wish me luck! Be sure to check out Melissa’s blog to cheer her on too! She already started her challenge this week.
Now, onto yesterday’s meals….
Breakfast – “Protein Oats” (1scp BSN Lean Dessert & 1/3c Oatbran) with Coffee & Water to round out the meal.
Lunch – Fat Free Tuna Salad Wrapped in Bibb Lettuce & An Orange
Dinner – Eating For Life Homestyle Meatloaf, Brown Rice & a Side of Spinach with Pepper, Mushroom and Onion
As they say, “that’s all she wrote.” I’m off to take advantage of this snow day and get some cleaning done. Want to know one last secret? My Christmas decorations are still up. I’ll get those put away today too.
Have a great day!
